Glory Game

The first modern Olympic Games coincided with the invention of the cinematograph, which completely transformed the way we participate in and perceive sports. The media has since established its own order, one which now prevails over that of athletic competition.

The rules and regulations of Olympic disciplines have sometimes been adjusted for the benefit of the television camera and the viewer at home. Techniques used to present movement – such as slow motion, time-lapse, replays, close-ups and rapid changes of perspective – give the viewing experience the immersive quality of a TV series, complete with melodrama.

At the centre of it all is the body, from which more and more is constantly demanded. Modern sports impose extreme strain on athletes, exceeding the biological capacity of the human organism. Citius, Altius, Fortius – Faster, Higher, Stronger.

Dominik Więcek is a dancer, choreographer, performer, fashion photographer, and stylist.

He is a graduate of the Ludwik Solski State Drama School (now the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts) in Kraków and the Dance Theatre Department at AST Bytom, as well as a scholarship recipient at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He has collaborated with artists and directors including Jacek Łumiński, Jerzy Stuhr, Giorgia Maddamma, Idan Cohen, Jens van Daele, Sylwia Hefczyńska-Lewandowska, Eryk Makohon, Karolina Kroczak, Tomasz Wygoda, Mariusz Treliński, and the German dance company bodytalk (Yoshiko Waki, Rolf Baumgart).

From 2016 to 2019, he was a dancer and artist at the Polish Dance Theatre in Poznań, where he performed in pieces choreographed by Tomasz Bazan, Aleksandra Dziurosz, Iwona Pasińska, Jacek Przybyłowicz, Ewa Wycichowska, Kaya Kołodziejczyk and Tomasz Rodowicz.

Since 2020, together with Dominika Wiak, Daniela Komędera and Monika Witkowska, he has been co-creating stage projects and performances as part of the Sticky Fingers Club collective.

In 2021, Więcek created the performance Café Müller, which was selected for the Aerowaves #Twenty23 line-up. In 2024, his work Glory Game was also invited to join this prestigious programme and was presented the following year as part of the Aerowaves Spring Forward Festival in Gorizia, Italy.
