The main organizer of Polish Dance Platform is the National Institute of Music and Dance (NIMiT), which has held this role continuously since 2013 (originally as the Institute of Music and Dance, which became NIMiT in 2021).
Central to NIMiT’s approach is the event’s rotating format – every two years, Platform takes place in a different city, in cooperation with local institutions, organizations and dance communities.
The hosts of the event so far have been:
2014 – Lublin (in cooperation with the Centre for Culture in Lublin);
2017 – Bytom (in cooperation with the ROZBARK Bytom Dance and Movement Theatre);
2019 – Gdańsk (in cooperation with the Polka dot Foundation and Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre);
2024 – Łódź (the eighth edition took place on 18–21 April in cooperation with Materia and the Academic Centre for Artistic Initiatives).

The Grotowski Institute in Wrocław is a municipal cultural institution committed to documenting and disseminating knowledge about Jerzy Grotowski and his Laboratory Theatre, as well as hosting events corresponding to the ideas laid down by Grotowski’s creative practice.
Welcome to Wrocław!
My city has its own history of the performing arts – one that is long, unconventional and still very much alive. After the Second World War, Wrocław was shaped by the people who came here from different parts of Poland (and beyond) and who had roots in many different places. It was most likely from this melting pot that a culture open to experimentation emerged. It was in Wrocław that Jerzy Grotowski set about revolutionizing the theatre, that Henryk Tomaszewski developed his innovative pantomime language, that Bogusław Litwiniec organized his International Open Theatre Festival, and that the Orange Alternative movement put together peaceful happenings to stand up to Poland’s authoritarian regime at the time.
In Wrocław, experimentation and the avant-garde are very much living art currents.
I was keen to base the two programmes I have curated – Polish Dance Platform’s preliminary programme Wrocław Dances!, as well as its accompanying programme – on this particular place and this particular time. I wanted Wrocław to become an equal creative partner of Platform, rather than merely a host city.
That is why the inaugural production of Polish Dance Platform 2026 was created in Wrocław. For more than four weeks, Maria Stokłosa worked alongside the city’s creatives as part of a residency process, which in itself plays a crucial role and is invaluable for local dance and choreography circles. Needless to say, you – our audience – will be focusing on the result of that process, and it is my pleasure to be able to present it to you.
I am very pleased that you are here. I hope Wrocław will intrigue you and that we will meet here again in the future!

Information about the Jerzy Grotowski Institute
The primary location of the Grotowski Institute is the historical home of the Laboratory Theatre in Przejście Żelaźnicze on Wrocław’s Market Square (Rynek). The Archive of the Grotowski Institute, the Laboratory Theatre Space, the Ludwik Flaszen Reading Room and the Institute’s Office are all located there. Na Grobli Studio opened in April 2010 at 30/32 Na Grobli Street, in the former home of the Wratislavia Rowing Association. Brzezinka, the forest base of the Grotowski Institute, is located in a standalone building near the village of Brzezinka, close to Oleśnica (40 kilometres from Wrocław). A new space, the Centre for Performing Arts opened in April 2019 in the former garrison bakery building (now Piekarnia Żywa Kultura) in Kępa Mieszczańska at 62 Księcia Witolda Street. It is a large, professionally set-up theatre studio.
